Leilani Gaugin Rosenthal is a formally trained photographer and visual artist based in Los Angeles, CA. For her, photography is how she immerses herself in a world she finds remarkably beautiful, complex, and mysterious.
From a very young age, her multicultural and multilingual background has allowed her to move between spaces, seamlessly adapting to different environments and cultures, and connecting with people from all walks of life. This worldly experience, combined with her previous B.A. in History and International Politics from UCLA, have been formative in developing her obsession with who we are, the stories we tell, and the places that shape us. She also draws inspiration from music, cinema, her experience as a former professional big air kitesurfer, skate and surf culture, science, and more.
Leilani works in digital and analog formats, and spends many hours in the darkroom developing and perfecting her own prints. Light, texture, atmosphere, and emotion are her language, giving her images an introspective and tactile quality.
